Marcon Mountain Hawks Take Flight

Who can get involved?

ANYONE!

The Marcon Institute flattens hierarchies. Fellows and associates receive mentorship from the Marcon Institute and faculty experts. Projects can be co-created by students, faculty, staff, and community collaborators as well.

If you have a project idea for antiracist policy, activism, art, technology, or research and want support for your project, to find collaborators, or get assistance formulating a proposal – contact us at marconinst@lehigh.edu

If you are a minoritized student, staff member, or faculty member or if your research, teaching, or service goals align with the values of the Marcon Institute – tell us how we can support you, amplify your work, and help expand your impact. We are here for you at the marconinst@lehigh.edu

How can you get involved?

There are many ways to get involved with the Marcon Institute. We have numerous community collaborators, fellowship opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and much more.

Explore our GET INVOLVED page and visit our PROGRAMS & INITIATIVES page to learn more about ways to get involved and find out more about our annual Radical Love Conference.

  • Spread joy

Associate Fellows are not compensated but receive academic credit for a part-time commitment to their project. Associate fellows enroll in independent study credits with the Marcon Institute director or with a faculty advisor.  Associate Fellows have the following duties:

What is the 10 week intensive summer experience?

The 10 week summer intensive experience is a collective effort to make progress on your projects, network, engage in curricular and co-curricular activities, as well as cultivate a growing community of antiracist scholars.

The structure and schedule of activities is co-created. The Marcon Institute director in conjunction with community collaborators and the previous cohort of fellows and associate fellows develop program guidelines and a framework for each cohort. Then, fellows and associate fellows negotiate the content and schedule to maximize the community-building experience.

What opportunities are programmed for students?

LU Summer Research Expo (August): The LU Summer Research Expo is an opportunity for fellows and associate fellows to get feedback on their projects, network, further develop collaborations, and celebrate your successes.

Radical Love Conference (March): The annual Radical Love Conference is a public-facing, community building event designed to enhance our antiracist community of practice.

What are the expectations for faculty mentors?

Faculty mentors are welcomed and encouraged to recruit students to their own projects. Those students will need to fill out an application form to the program and indicate on the application if the student will enroll in academic credit with the faculty advisor or the Marcon Institute director.
